Animating a slide is four decisions repeated: what moves, from where to where, how fast, and what it waits for. Everything else is taste. This walkthrough takes one slide from a static rectangle to a shape that curves across the canvas, turns to face the direction it is travelling and then morphs into something else — using keyframes you can drag on the canvas rather than a menu of canned effects. Step 1: open the studio and build the slide out of real layers

Animation is far easier when the objects underneath are right, so build the slide properly first. You have eleven layer types, a 28-shape searchable library, SVG import that stays a real editable vector, 92 icons, and on-canvas text editing with fourteen fonts. Name and lock your layers as you go, because a timeline with eight layers all called “Rectangle” is where beginners quietly lose an hour. One thing to set expectations: there are no templates to start from, so you are building on a blank canvas rather than hunting for a gallery — which is the point, since a template would animate the way its author decided, not the way you want.

Step 2: set your first keyframe, or just turn on record

There are two ways in. You can place a keyframe explicitly: put the playhead where the movement should start, set a keyframe on the layer, move the playhead forward, and change the property. Either way, what a keyframe actually stores is one property value at one moment in time — nothing more mysterious than that.

Step 3: shape the move by dragging the path on the canvas

This is the mechanic that separates real animation from a menu of canned effects. The moment two position keyframes exist, the motion dots appear on the canvas itself. Drag them to change where the layer goes and when it gets there — no timeline field, no coordinate boxes, just the trajectory under your cursor.

Then switch the path from a straight line to a smooth curve, and turn on orient-to-path so the layer rotates to face the direction it is travelling. The concrete demo to try: send a shape on an arc across the slide that finishes pointing straight at your headline. An arrow, a rocket or a plane animated this way looks intentional in a way a straight slide never does.

Step 4: morph one shape into another

Morphing here means the geometry itself changes: pick a start shape, pick a target, scrub the playhead, and watch the outline genuinely reshape from one into the other over time — a circle into a star, a logo into an icon. That is different from what most tools call morphing, which is a crossfade of two stacked images dissolving into each other; a crossfade never reshapes anything.

It is also not welded to a slide transition, which is the useful part: the morph can happen in the middle of a slide while you keep talking over it, not only at the cut between slides. Step 5: entrances, exits and the cut between slides

This is the polish layer — quick to apply and easy to overdo. There are fourteen entrances and twelve exits, each with its own duration and one of seven easing curves and an instant preview, including a typewriter effect and a flat-to-3D reveal for text. Between slides you have six transitions — fade, slide, push, zoom, wipe and blur — with the pace set per slide.

If you are arriving from PowerPoint, where the animation pane is where you normally do this, the same ideas carry over: one effect per layer, ordered and timed, just on a timeline instead of a list. Be clear-eyed, though — a .pptx can be imported but never produced, and its animations are not part of the trip, so this is a technique you are relearning. One rule of taste worth keeping: pick a single idea per slide that should move on its own, and let everything else support it.

Step 6: decide what each slide waits for

Timing is the difference between a deck that runs itself and a deck that follows a speaker. Each slide can either auto-advance on a timer or hold for a click. Set it to hold, and the slide’s animations play, then the deck waits — for the spacebar, the arrow keys or the on-screen dock — before moving on.

That single switch lets one deck do two jobs: leave every slide on a timer and it loops unattended on a screen in a lobby; set the slides you intend to talk over to hold, and it follows you on stage. The common beginner mistake is auto-advancing a slide you meant to speak over, so the deck races ahead of your sentence — decide, slide by slide, what each one is waiting for.

Step 7: play it, then present it live

First, watch it. Scrub the timeline, zoom to fit, and press play to see every effect run on the very same page you built it on — there is no separate preview mode and no export step, because there is no export at all.

Then perform it. Press Present and the deck becomes a live session with an eight-character code, a join link for that session and a QR. Attendees join with no account, and your click-advance holds and animations behave exactly as they did in the editor, synced to every screen as you advance.
